Deadweight

a.k.a. The Crazy Belgian.

Detlef is a Belgian arms dealer -cum- international criminal mastermind currently on the run from Interpol. He has been turning up in Whistler, with disturbing regularity, for a significant number of years.

Detlef holds a unique - indeed infamous - position in the annals of Murray Camp history - being the person who has completed the most Camps. This in itself raises an important question: apart from the issue of how he has physically survived so much torture, there is the small matter of how, in all that time, he has seemingly failed to learn anything. One possible explanation for this could lie in the fact that Detlef rarely actually follows the instructions provided by his coaches, preferring instead to ski his own program. Thus, when his group is specifically instructed to ski a particular line, it is not uncommon to watch Detlef veer off and ski a completely different one. For anyone remotely tempted to follow the Detlef Line - don't. The Detlef Line has resulted in people becoming entangled in untracked forestry and has even seen the man himself emerge, after a lengthy disappearance, with an unexplained puncture wound to his posterior (causing him to be renamed as "Buttlef" by a kindly coach).

Despite any other criticisms about his skiing or line selection however, there is always one run where Detlef excels: you may pass him during the day, he may suck on the racecourse; however come the last run of the day, all you will hear is some vague mention of the word "bier" and he will be gone.
