Doctor Death

a.k.a. The Dementor, The Verminator, Dr Kitten

Kindree is the Camp's longest serving coach. In fact Kindree has been coaching so long that no one actually seems to remember when he started. This has given rise to the rumour that he has in fact been coaching since before the dawn of time and is, technically, undead.

Further to this, it has been observed that he only actually appears in Whistler during the dark winter months and disappears again once the sun gets high in the sky. This has given rise to a further rumour that, at the start of every ski season, his casket is in fact exhumed from the dark, loamy Oregonian earth, hitched to a team of black horses and dispatched North of the Border where it is opened by Tom Pro and a specially-selected team of vollies in time for the first Camp of the season.

Unfortunately the sense of their being something wrong about this man does not end there - there is also the fact that he never seems to stop for lunch (giving rise to the rumour that he in fact feeds on the souls of his Campers) ...and then there's his ski "technique" which seems to allow him to effortlessly glide around on a pair of planks with his hands in his pockets in blatant disregard for so many established rules of ski technique (and indeed physics). Oh yes, and no one can recall ever seeing his shadow...

From the above, it is clear that being selected as part of Dr. Death's group is always going to be a particularly unpleasant experience. Possibly even more than in the other coaches' groups, a "Death Camper" can rest assured that he or she will not learn anything and, at best, can only aspire to survive. The most important thing that a Camper can discover about The Dr. Death Experience is that it is all about vertical - the more he can accumulate, the (marginally) less effort he puts into trying to hurt you. Unfortunately Dr. Death has long since identified Campers as the major obstacle to his accumulation of vertical and hence will seek to dispose of them at the earliest possible opportunity. This can be through physical damage (maiming, death) or from merely discarding them to the mercy of the elements as he makes his diabolical progress across the mountain. From the first (dangerously high speed) warm-up run, Dr Death is on the lookout for signs of weakness and the weak shall be culled. Worse than the weak is that most loathsome of Campers - the sandbagger. Sandbaggers are an especial drain on the accumulation of vertical and, in Kindree's view, must be weeded out and eliminated at the earliest opportunity. To this end, the last Camper to turn up at a designated rendezvous point will be selected to immediately go first. In this way, the basic rules of attrition can rid the group of sandbaggers in the shortest possible time.
